Step 1: Read Background Info
Classical music has many competitions where the goal is to see who is proficient in the performance of a composition, style, harmony, specific performance or technical skill. Django Reinhardt is known for his special merit, exceptional compositions and virtuosic contributions to Jazz. It is not something that is simply taught at conservatories. It often involves studies in family circles, through exacting practice and the lore of guitar virtuosos in this style. Jimmy Rosenberg is certainly one of them. Within the JR academy we have developed a special format that should enable guitar players around the world to acquire and demonstrate mastery.
Unlike classical music, it is not about exactly imitating or reproducing a written melody according to the academic rules that belong to a composer, style or instruction. The emphasis in Gypsy Jazz is on one's own creativity and the art of improvising on a given theme.
In our competition, there are two rounds. In the first round, a free submission, and after selection, the finalists advance to the second round: there they are given an obligatory work to study and work out.

You may choose your own theme. This can be an existing work, or your own composition. You make an intro, play it the first time as a theme, and the second time you repeat it but improvise. This entry may be up to 2 minutes in total.

Participation & Submission Form Pre-selections

The lucky laureates of the first round, the so-called pre-selections, will receive their congratulations and their invitation for the second round by mail. In the second round it is no longer possible to choose a free work. Now it is about working on obligatory pieces.
The imposed pieces will be announced later, and will be offered here in the form of score and sound file:

2. Composition B Score and MP3 file
3. Composition C Score and MP3 file
Again, the idea is to first play the theme as prescribed, then one can begin the improvisation on this theme. The total recording should not exceed 3 minutes. The three pieces must be sent (mp3 format) by using the accompanying online form, see link below:

The international jury consists of the chairman, Jimmy Rosenberg, assisted by at least 2 other gypsy guitar virtuosos. After listening to and judging the final submissions, they will announce the winners.
The Winners will be notified by email. A ceremony date will then be set, when the awards (Django Reinhardt Cup) will be officially presented by the chairman of the jury, Jimmy Rosenberg.
One of them gets the title, world champion. This name will forever be immortalized in the annals. The laureates will have the opportunity to realize a recording, The new World Champion in direct collaboration with Jimmy Rosenberg.

The laureates will have the opportunity to realize a recording, The new World Champion in direct collaboration with Jimmy Rosenberg and other world class musicians.
